It was along this ancient road that the Islamic and Christian cultures collided and merged with one another between the 8th and 10th centuries and each building is a unique blend of Moorish and Romanesque influences. Meaning ‘Position of the Sun’ in German, Sonnenstand looks at the relationship between light and architecture. Ursula Schulz-Dornburg has photographed the movement of light in these hermitages at different times of day and during different seasons of the year. The chapels become sundials, light streaming through the small arches and windows, echoing the earth's passage around the sun.   Ursula Schulz-Dornburg and Lawrence Weiner 18th Nov - 6th Dec 2009 Born in 1938 Lives and works in Düsseldorf Ursula Schulz-Dornburg studied photography in Munich and lived in New York before settling in Dusseldorf in 1960.
